FREE family event brings food, fun and entire community together
Temple Beth El of Boca Raton will be celebrating Chanukah this year with its signature Chanukah Under the Stars event from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Friday, December 7, 2018 at the Mizner Park Amphitheater. This free community event will be a beautiful evening under the night sky, as members from the local South Florida Jewish community come together to celebrate the joyous holiday of Chanukah.
Starting at 5:00 pm, prior to the main Chanukah and Shabbat Service, the event will include a children’s area with bounce houses, face painting, crafts followed by a Chanukah Tot Shabbat and and PJ Library storytelling. During this time, there will be a variety of dinner and snack food for purchase including traditional potato pancakes (latkes) of many varieties! Artisan Foods and Chez Gourmet will provide the main food options, along with food trucks for donuts (sufganiyot), pizza and ice cream
The Chanukah and Shabbat service will then begin at 7:30 pm and will feature the temple clergy; Rabbi Daniel Levin, Rabbi Jessica Spitalnic Brockman, Rabbi Greg Weisman, Cantor Lori Shapiro and Cantorial Soloist Michelle Auslander Cohen. Temple Beth El’s Adult Chorale, the teen group (Shir Ruach), and the youth choir for grades 3-6 (Shir Joy) will also be featured in this musical celebration and will be accompanied by professional musicians.
“The celebration of Chanukah brings light into the darkest time of the year,” said Rabbi Dan Levin. “It is our hope that the entire community will share in our congregation’s celebration of the Festival of Lights. We deliberately chose the Mizner Park Amphitheater so that everyone in our community will feel welcome to celebrate this festive time with us.”
Chanukah under the Stars was first introduced in 2010, and has grown in attendance steadily, with the 2014 celebration attracting nearly 4000 people. This year, the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County is supporting the event through its Jewish Outreach grant. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Please contact Leslie Viselman at 561-314-2836 or email@example.com.
In the spirit of the season, Temple Beth El will be partnering with The Giving Tree of Boca Raton to help make the holidays brighter for all. There will be an opportunity to learn about and support this wonderful local organization which engages with local agencies, schools and other community organizations to identify specific individual needs of children, families and seniors in our community. The Giving Tree Holiday Gift program delivers holiday gifts to children and families who might otherwise not be able to celebrate with gifts during the holiday season. “We are so excited to bring Chanukah Under the Stars to the community again this year.” said Steve Kaufman, Executive Director at Temple Beth El. “To see the community come together to share the light of Chanukah and Shabbat is truly an inspiring and energizing experience.” (You may donate to The Giving Tree here.)
This event is free and open to the community. Limited seating is available; please bring lawn chairs and blankets. Arrive early for best parking. For more information about Chanukah Under the Stars, visit tbeboca.org/special-events or call 561-391-8900.
