Steve Dropkin is a performer, and an award winning composer. A Theater Arts major at Clark University, specializing in Technical Theater. Music was always a part of his life from age 6, when he started playing piano, and at 12 he took up the guitar. Now, he is widely regarded as a major force in Contemporary Jewish music, and his music is known, and used, throughout the Reform Movement.
Steve has recorded five albums of original Jewish music. He has been a guest lecturer at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York City for 10 years. He has performed in England, Israel, and around the United States. He has performed at Gracie Mansion for Mayor Giuliani's "Jewish Heritage Celebration”. Steve has been a featured performer at the URJ National Biennial on three occasions, at several of the NFTY National Youth Conventions, as well as at 14 CAJE Educational Conferences. Dropkin is considered to be a Master Songleader and teacher, having presented workshops at numerous Jewish conferences and conventions.
Steve has also been a finalist in the American Jewish Song Contest, and in November of 2004, he performed at the First Annual Shalshelet International Liturgy Festival in Washington, DC, where his piece “Hashkiveinu” was a Festival winner. His music has also been featured on the in-flight listening programs for Tower Airlines.
Currently, Steve serves as the Chorale Director at Temple Beth El in Boca Raton, FL. He has been the High Holiday Soloist at Temple Sinai in Houston, TX for the last seven years. Steve is also the founder of the Birmingham Jewish Folk Chorale.
Originally from New Jersey, Steve has lived in Israel, and also in the deep south, in Birmingham, Alabama. He relocated to Florida three years ago. He is the father of two beautiful daughters, Marni, 19, who will be a junior at The University of San Francisco, and Ariel, 17, who will be a High School senior in Agoura Hills, CA.
