About Us
The Temple Beth El of Boca Raton Early Childhood Center (ECC) opened its doors in 1979 to offer preschoolers a strong program enriched with Jewish culture, tradition and values. We help children observe Jewish traditions and holidays that celebrate our heritage through hands-on sensory experiences in music, art, literature, and cooking. Hebrew words and songs are woven into our curriculum as the children explore Jewish traditions, rituals, and Hebrew blessings.

Accepting & Loving
Childhood is a time for exploring, creating, discovering, and learning to be accepted “just the way I am.” It is a time for blossoming and being appreciated--a time for being allowed to be a child. We appreciate the uniqueness of each child and strive to meet his/her personal and learning needs on an individual basis in an accepting and loving environment.

Nurturing Staff
Since each child learns at his/her own pace, we feel children learn best with highly trained teachers who can nurture each child into his/her next stage of development. Our professional staff is selected for knowledge of child development as well as strong interpersonal skills.

Our Classes

This program is for parents and their children 3 to 24 months of age. It offers a special opportunity for parents and their child(ren) to interact with peers while exploring developmentally appropriate materials through play, crafts, songs, and stories. There is a Jewish component included in each session based on a holiday or theme.

Two-Year-Old Classes
Toddlers discover their world on a physical level and learn more by doing than by being told. This is also a time when they start to become autonomous. The classroom includes materials to engage the children in imaginative play. Appropriate art experiences, building blocks, music, and books for creative exploration help each child further develop his/her cognitive and physical skills. The children are also introduced to colors, shapes, and numbers through play activities.

While teachers set limits that are fair and consistent, they also give each child the opportunity to make choices. Expectations for behavior are developmentally appropriate and allow each child to be challenged yet feel support from his/her teacher. Frustration is kept to a minimum allowing the child’s dignity and self-concept to remain intact.

Three-Year-Old Classes
Our preschoolers have the opportunity to be involved in many hands-on activities as well as activities centering on communication. By integrating print and language into each activity center, your child is exposed to the whole language approach. Children learn both upper & lower case letters, beginning sounds, simple word recognition and to write their names. Books are readily available for their use.

Four-Year-Old Classes
Our Pre-Kindergarten children will embark on a yearlong learning adventure that will include progressively challenging language experiences.

They will be exposed to a print-rich environment through “Land of the Letter People,” become familiar with capital and lower case letters, the sounds the letters make, and how the 26 letters are written. Opportunities are given to each child to recognize words that have meaning and create their own stories through writing center activities. Math, Science, Social Studies and Technology are all part of our well-planned curriculum.

We participate in the Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten program offered by Palm Beach County. Our graduates are admitted to many of the private schools and qualify for the “gifted” program in the elementary schools.

Classroom Curriculum

Exploring Science – Our science curriculum offers the children many opportunities to explore. We have an ongoing sensory table where a variety of activities are introduced that deal with plant and animal life, the human body, nutrition, weather, magnets, the solar system and cooking. Open-ended questions by the teachers help the children learn how to question and to be thinkers.

Numbers – This program introduces the children to concepts of geometry, serration, classification, sets, graphs, simple addition and subtraction, and money. They will also learn to recognize and write numbers 1 to 20.

Our World – Learning about the world around us is essential in today’s society. To introduce the children to their world, we use themes based on family, community, occupations, and animals.

Melodies & Music – We use music as a way for children to learn. It is also used for shear enjoyment. Children are exposed to and involved with rhythm instruments, classical music, nursery rhymes, songs, and finger plays.

Artistic Expression– Exploratory, sensory art activities help the child experience a variety of media. Material is always available for creating collages, an approach we prefer to crafting a specific project.

Using Large Motor Skills – In order to develop a child’s larger muscles, our movement program provides activities for dance, parachute, climbing, crawling, running and balancing.

Using Fine Motor Skills – The children are offered many opportunities to develop their smaller muscles too, a pre-requisite for writing. They use simple tools, pegboards, puzzles, crayons, markers, and scissors.

Other Activities – Our school also includes a computer lab, children’s library, provides for outdoor sporting activities, and offers before and after care.

Classroom Environment - Children work in small groups and focus on individual tasks. Many of the activities are open-ended, allowing brainstorming and creativity. Children practice taking turns, following directions and respecting the rights of others.

Keeping You Informed & Involved

Progress Review –Teachers meet with individual parents to review each child’s progress throughout the year. These conferences may be scheduled at anytime.

Keeping You Informed - Parents receive weekly newsletters and information about special school events.

Parental Involvement - We encourage parents to become an active part of the school. One way is by sharing their interests, talents and occupations with our classes. Another is by becoming involved with our Early Childhood Committee, an active group that assists in providing programs and support to our Early Childhood Center.
