What is BOFTY?
BOFTY (Boca’s Original Federation of Temple Youth) is for students in 9-12
th grades and is Temple Beth El’s answer to Senior Youth Group. Yet, it is more that just a youth group. Exciting events are planned in Orlando, Tampa, Miami, and Boca, and whether it is social action or just socializing, BOFTY is a wonderful organization that brings together Jewish teens.
High Schoolers join together to socialize, pray, do community service, learn, hold leadership positions, and most importantly have a good time! Along with monthly events including Mystery Bus Rides, Picnics, Pool Parties, and Theme Park trips, BOFTY also meets almost every Tuesday Night for dinner and program in the Youth Lounge. Everyone is welcome!
What is NFTY?
NFTY stands for the North American Federation of Temple Youth. With 19 regions in all 50 states including Canada and over 450 Temple Youth Groups and an amazing biannual NFTY Convention with over 1,200 teens, it’s hard to believe that’s not even as big as it gets. NFTY is a snif (branch) of Netzer Olami, the International Reform Zionist Youth Movement making even NFTY, as large as it is, tiny on a worldwide scale.
BOFTY is a member of STR, NFTY’s Southern Tropical Region, along with Miami, West Palm, the Tampa Bay Area, and all the way up through Orlando. NFTY-STR meets four times a year, two times for kallot, Fall Kallah and Spring Kallah, as well as a five-day event, Winter Regional and a Leadership Training weekend, LLTI. STR events include services, mixers, programs, social action projects, as well as a dance or social at the end of each event. STR also participates in a Social Action Project, Camp Jenny, which gives inner-city kids from Atlanta the full camp experience at the beautiful URJ Camp Coleman over Labor Day Weekend. NFTY has so much to offer and a paragraph doesn’t do it justice so why not give the next NFTY event a try?
